What we don't do

We offer companionship and home help. We are not registered with the Care Quality Commission, so we don't provide:

  • washing, bathing, dressing or help with the toilet
  • giving or handling medication
  • lifting or hoisting
  • nursing tasks
  • overnight or live-in care
  • heavy cleaning, decorating or gardening

If your needs change and you need personal care, we'll tell you and your family, and help you find a registered provider.

Questions

Questions families ask

What's the difference between companionship and personal care?

Companionship and home help covers company, shopping, housework, meals and trips out. Personal care means help with washing, dressing, the toilet or medication, and must be provided by a service registered with the Care Quality Commission. We provide companionship and home help only.

Will it be the same person each time?

Yes. You have a regular companion, so your relative sees one familiar face rather than a different carer each week.

I live away from my parent. Can I arrange and pay for visits?

Yes. Many of our clients' sons and daughters arrange visits from a distance. With your parent's agreement, we can send you a short update after each visit.

How does shopping and money work?

We bring back every receipt and the change, and record it on a shopping sheet you can check. We never use bank cards, PIN numbers or online banking.

Is there a contract?

There's a short, plain-English agreement. You can end it with 7 days' notice, and you have 14 days to change your mind after signing.

Can you visit in the evenings or at weekends?

Yes, by arrangement. We don't provide overnight visits.

Can we use direct payments from the council?

If you receive direct payments or a personal budget, you can usually use them to pay for companionship and home help. Ask your social worker, and we'll provide whatever paperwork they need.
