About us

Local, independent, and built on real care experience

Bridgewater Companions is an independent companionship and home help service based in Worsley, named after the canal that runs through the villages we serve. We were founded on 15 years of professional care experience, much of it supporting people living with dementia, to give older people the time and attention that busy care rotas rarely allow.

We keep things simple: one agreement in plain English, clear prices, and a familiar face at the door.

Questions families ask

The things people want to know first

What's the difference between companionship and personal care?

Companionship and home help covers company, shopping, housework, meals and trips out. Personal care means help with washing, dressing, the toilet or medication, and must be provided by a service registered with the Care Quality Commission. We provide companionship and home help only. If personal care is needed, we'll help you find a registered provider.

Will it be the same person each time?

Yes. You have a regular companion, so your relative sees one familiar face rather than a different carer each week.

I live away from my parent. Can I arrange and pay for visits?

Yes. Many of our clients' sons and daughters arrange visits from a distance. With your parent's agreement, we can send you a short update after each visit.

Is there a contract?

There's a short, plain-English agreement. You can end it with 7 days' notice, and you have 14 days to change your mind after signing.
